Mercedes A45 AMG arrives to Mercedes-Benz dealers this summer
Petrol heads should get ready for this summer’s latest and most surprising arrival at Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire retailers. The legacy of the storied Mercedes-AMG performance division continues with the introduction of the powerful, stunning and gorgeous Mercedes A 45 AMG, a dynamic compact car with the heart and soul of AMG within.
The newest member of the Mercedes A Class family offers a break from other traditional AMG offerings, thanks to its extraordinary high-tech package and its ability to offer compact efficiency without sacrificing the key traits that make this vehicle, along with other AMG variants special in the eyes of potential buyers.
At the heart of the A 45 AMG lies the division’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, tasked with delivering the power and performance of a supercar while achieving excellent fuel economy and emissions benchmarks. Like all other AMG engines, the 2.0-litre is carefully and painstakingly hand-built by seasoned technicians and rigorously tested to withstand the performance demands put upon it by drivers.
With 360 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque available, the A 45 AMG is a triumph of raw, visceral performance. To handle the 181 horsepower per litre, AMG calls on the use of its SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission to route power to the wheels, offering seamless split-second gear changes within the 2.0-litre engine’s solid power and torque bands. While the A45 AMG is capable of accelerating to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, it also achieves 40.9 mpg in combined mode and remains in compliance with 2014 EU6 emissions standards.
The availability of Mercedes-AMG’s trademark 4MATIC all-wheel drive on the muscular A 45 AMG is a new development for the entire performance line, since it represents the first time that any AMG vehicle has featured all-wheel drive on showroom floors. Combined with the 3-stage ESP with ESP Curve Dynamic Assist, the A 45 AMG offers unparalleled stability and traction in a broad spectrum of demanding driving scenarios.
BBC Top Gear has already had the pleasure of driving a recent prototype of the Mercedes A 45 AMG. From the throaty burble of the optional AMG Performance exhaust system to the neck-snapping acceleration and laser-sharp handling, testers came away from the A 45 AMG with a deep appreciation of its abilities and the assurance that nearly every inch of the prototype will carry over to very model scheduled to land on dealer lots this summer.
